There are many reasons why a cat may be reluctant to eat. If your cat stops eating suddenly, or if you notice a decrease in appetite overtime, it’s a good idea to take your kitty to the vet. However, if your cat has a clean bill of health and just seems to turn up her nose at food every once in a while, try one of these tricks to get her eating again.

Variety
It’s perfectly normal for your cat to eat one type of food for a week or so and then lose interest. Like human beings, cats likes to change it up now and then. You don’t have to go out and buy a radically different food each time, but keeping three varieties of food on rotation can be just the trick to keep your kitty interested in eating.

Food texture
Whole pieces of shrimp, carrots, and rice may look appealing to humans, but some cats find the change in taste and texture distracting. If your cat tends to chew her dry food, she would probably be fine with a chunky wet food. However, if your cat likes to lick all of the gravy from the wet food and and leave the chunks behind, chances are she would rather have a pate.

Food temperature
Most cats like for their food to be room temperature. If you store the remainder of the wet food in the refrigerator, you can microwave it for 5-10 seconds. Food that is a little warmer also tends to emit a more inviting aroma.

Eating location
In the wild, cats dine alone. If you have more than one cat in your household, they may feel more comfortable eating in separate rooms without you present. Avoid high traffic areas, and do not feed your cats near the litter box. Their sensitive noses will pick up the unappetizing scent.
